Sherpa Pet Carrier on American Airlines?

Question by aevans21927: Sherpa Pet Carrier on American Airlines?
Can a medium sized Sherpa bag fit in the cabin on an American Airlines flight? Under the seat in front of you? Anyone actually done this? Thanks!

Answer by Chance
Not all Sherpa bags are airline approved. Make sure that your style and brand is approved.

The maximum size for cabin pet carriers is 19″ long x 13″ wide x 9″ high. Soft-sided pet carriers such as Sherpa bags may exceed these dimensions slightly because they are collapsible. Animals must be able to stand up, turn around and lie down in a natural position in the kennel. Soft-sided pet carriers are accepted as long as they are constructed of water-repellent, padded nylon with mesh ventilation on two or more sides.

Airline restrictions on bringing dog in cabin with you?

Question by mango_kiwi: Airline restrictions on bringing dog in cabin with you?
I am thinking about going to a pet massage school soon and am considering bringing my smaller dog with me. The flight would be probably only about 1 hour to 1hr and a half, so not too long. At his last vet appointment he weighed around 14 lbs. The airlines I have looked at have a 15lb-22lb maximum weight for the dog plus the carrier to be allowed as a carry-on in the cabin. But I am confused. Most dog carriers weigh only a few lbs, maybe even less for the fabric ones. So, that means a dog that is 16 lbs can go on the flight if his carrier is 4 lbs or so. But the maximum height allowed on most hard-sided carriers is 8 or 9 inches and the airlines state that the dog must be able to stand up and turn around. (I am assuming that if 8 or 9 inches is the maximum allowed for hard-sided carriers that this is about how much room the dog will have between the floor and the seat above, but I plan on purchasing a soft-sided carrier.) But what 16 lb dog is going to be able to stand up fully within only 8 inches? I don’t know how strict airlines are about this or how closely they monitor animals on the plane as I have only traveled on a plane once a long time ago when I was young and so I have little knowledge or personal experience so I would greatly appreciate any help. Personal experience with bringing small dogs in the cabin with you would be awesome! Thanks!
Please only answer if you know what you are talking about (manxbiker), you can take small dogs and cats on planes with you in the cabin…

Thanks nickipettis for caring and I would NEVER let my dog go in cargo for the same reasons you listed!

Question by Natasa: What is the max size of soft-sided dog carriers that Continental airlines will allow in-flight?
I am traveling with my puppy schnauzer (4 months) and I heard that hard carriers have to be 9″ high, but does anyone have any experience with soft sided ones? If anyone has taken their pet in-flight on Continental please share your experience. Also, if anyone knows the height underneath seats on Continental airlines that would be GREAT, too!
